OH 9 details

Date: Around 1.2 million years old
Location: Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania
Species: Homo erectus
Discovered by: Louis Leakey
Date of Discovery: 1960
Details: OH 9 has a much larger cranial capacity (1067cc) than other early erectus crania found to date. Though the specimens age cannot be estimated by dental wear, fusion of the styloid process to the vaginal process at the base of the skull suggests this individual had a longer lifespan than seen in the australopithecines.
