Cromagnon I details

Date: Around 30,000 years ago
Location: Cro-Magnon rockshelter, southwestern France

Discovered by: First uncovered by railway workers
Date of Discovery: 1868
Details: The Cro-Magnon fossil was among the first ancient but anatomically modern humans found. The Cro-Magnon skull (along with the bones of 4-7 other individuals) was found in strata containing stone tools and bead like objects made from shells and animal teeth.
