Date: Around 400,000 years old
Location: Kabwe (Broken Hill), Zambia
Species: Early H. sapiens
Discovered by: Tom Zwiglaar
Date of Discovery: 1921-1925
Details: Broken Hill (or Kabwe) exhibits large brow ridges and a flat backward sloping frontal much like those of H. erectus; however, the increased cranial capacity (1325 cc) and vertical occipital plate distinguish this fossil as early H. sapiens. Note the bone deterioration from dental carries in the maxilla and a partially healed puncture wound in the left temporal. |
